Dr Emmanuel Bentum Amissah, affectionately known as Ps Emma or Dr Emma, was a man of service, humility, and deep compassion. A responsible son, affectionate brother, dedicated Pastor, academic, mentor, loving husband, father and friend. He touched lives both within and beyond Harvest Resource Centre. At Harvest Community Haven CIC, he served as a volunteer trustee and led the Blessing Wheels team, ensuring vital support reached the community week after week. He is known for his warm smile and selfless nature, he made everyone feel valued and at ease. He gave generously of his time and energy, leaving a lasting impact through his kindness, commitment, and unwavering dedication to others.
In the spirit of service to God and community, Emmanuel wore many hats.
Pastor Emmanuel Amissah was a devoted Christian whose life reflected deep faith, humility, and a profound love for God – and, ultimately, for all people. Until his passing, he faithfully served as Assistant Pastor at Harvest Chapel International, Nottingham (Beeston). His ministry was marked by compassion and a genuine passion for seeing lives transformed through the Word of God. He taught with clarity and conviction, and his commitment to spiritual growth and discipleship touched many lives. He was loved and respected by all, and his warmth, approachability, and consistency made him a trusted pillar within the church family. For nearly twenty years, he never missed a Sunday church service.
Emmanuel’s impact extended far beyond the church through his dedicated service with Harvest Community Haven (HCH), where he faithfully served as a volunteer trustee. HCH is a community interest company committed to providing social support and a safe, inclusive space for connection. Alongside others, he pioneered Starting Right, a student support programme addressing the unique challenges faced by international students. He championed their needs in Nottingham, offering practical guidance and organising tailored academic workshops. On Saturday mornings, Emmanuel was a familiar presence at HCH’s community café, supporting food bank services and warmly engaging with all who visited.
Alongside his ministry and community service, Emmanuel served with distinction as a Course Leader for the UG Economics Programmes and Principal Lecturer at Nottingham Trent University for 13 years. He was widely known for his friendliness, kindness, and unwavering support for both students and colleagues. Emmanuel took a genuine interest in his students, offering guidance, encouragement, and mentorship well beyond the classroom. He approached teaching with integrity, patience, and a commitment to excellence. A supportive colleague, he inspired confidence in those around him and was always ready to encourage and assist others. Emmanuel consistently went above and beyond what was required of him, leaving a positive and lasting impact across the Economics Department. He will be greatly missed.
His patience and care for others is out of this world. The day I heard he had passed I wept and throughout the day my spirit was down because I had planned a big thank you at the end of month to him. Pastor Emma may the Almighty God keep you untill we meet again

You were a true blessing to all who came into contact with you - a truly selfless, kind, humble, loving and faithful man.
Pastor Kwabena
Bentum Amissah remains memorable for his quiet and respectful nature. He stood out for his calm demeanor, choosing to listen more than speak and showing patience and humility even in tense moments. His quiet discipline left a lasting impression, reminding us that strength can be expressed through character rather than words.

Dr Emma was my pastor, mentor, big brother, and friend- always present with prayer, wisdom, and encouragement. He stood by me through grief and never failed to uplift me. His love for God was evident in all he did. Though this loss hurts deeply, I honour his life and legacy. Rest with the Lord.
Christine
Your life was a blessing, your presence a gift, and your impact unforgettable. You stood by us with love, faith, and strength, and your absence leaves a deep void. Rest peacefully, dear Pastor ,a brother and a true friend.Your memory will forever remain in our hearts.
Gloria
A life well lived for the glory of God. Well done, good and faithful servant! Your eternal crown of glory awaits you. I do not quite remember the details but to God's glory, I met Pastor Emmanuel during a campus evangelism on Nottingham campus and invited him to Harvest Chapel. He responded positively to join us and dedicated the rest of his time helping grow God's church. I went home to settle back in Ghana. When I returned back to Nottingham in 2011, Pastor Emma was part of the Harvest family that supported the christening of my 2nd child born in Nottingham. The last time we met was in Accra when we met for a meal together hosted by our mutual dear friend, Mama D. That was the day he reminded of how we met. I salute your work, Pastor Dr. Emmanuel.

May 14, 2026My family met Pastor Emma in December 2008, it’s was my husband who first met him at church when he was invited to church by a family friend, then I was in Ghana on holidays. I came back early 2009 and also had the pleasure to meet Pastor Emma, from there we became family. He was a very kind, loving, caring and selfless person everyone would want to be around him. He was always available when you need him. I remember I started with my childcare qualifications in preschool education, I was pregnant and I use to send him my work to read over for me, sometimes i even send him the questions and call him and explain what I want done and he will do it without complaining. He would do my word count and even print some out for me. We moved to Germany and he still did not give up on me. He always says you are my sister from another mother. My family was so blessed to have him as our Pastor. He will always pray for us, check up on us and visit us when he has time. Even though we were in Cyprus he still reached out to us and always says am your prayer partner Aunty Gina. You called me a week before you passed and said you haven’t heard from me and I said I see you all the time on zoom, we laughed and laughed and shared jokes. We were planning this year summer together ohhh Pastor Emma. You said you were coming to Gosport on the 16th May so we can surprise Denzel with a birthday party. The day you passed I messaged you and you responded me at 7.35pm. Hmmmm you have left me broken but what keeps me going is that I know you are resting with our maker and you are guiding us. You will be missed. Thank you so much for all you did for my family and myself. You were an angel sent from above. Apostle, Apostle as some of us call you, we love you and will continue loving you. Rest well Pastor Emma, rest well my brother, rest well our husband. Till we meet again. Your one and favourite Empress MamaGee the great. IT IS WELL, IT IS WELL 🙏🙏💔

May 13, 2026Dr. Pastor Emma — An Angel in Human Form To me, Pastor Emma was not just a name or a title. He was the first face of God’s kindness I met in the UK. In 2020, as a frightened student with an admission letter to NTU but no roof over my head, I was given his number by Kyerewaa, an NTU alumna back in Ghana. I called him — a total stranger — and said, “Kyerewaa gave me your number. I have admission to the UK but no accommodation.” By the very next day, Dr. Pastor Emma had written me a formal letter stating I would live in his spare room, and attached his ID documents as supporting evidence for my visa. A man who did not know me from anywhere. Hmmm, what a Godly man. Isaiah 58:7 says, _“Is it not to share your food with the hungry and to provide the poor wanderer with shelter?”_ Pastor Emma lived this verse. He didn’t quote it — he was it. When I arrived in the UK, trembling and alone, Pastor Emma was the one waiting at the train station. He drove me to an accommodation he had prepared for me, free of charge. The next morning, he and his beloved wife, Auntie Bernice, appeared at my door with food I thought I had said goodbye to in Ghana — kenkey, goat meat, shito, burger bread among others — “just so I wouldn’t be lonely and go hungry, being fresh in the country.” He did not have to know who you were to be kind and lovely to you. He saw need, and he moved. He saw a stranger, and he made family. Hebrews 13:2 tells us, “Do not forget to show hospitality to strangers, for by so doing some people have shown hospitality to angels without knowing it.” Today I believe we entertained an angel without knowing it. Dr. Pastor Emma was an angel in human form. Matthew 25:35 — “For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in.”_ Pastor Emma, you did all this for me, and for so many others whose stories we may never hear. My heart breaks that I never got the chance to thank him properly. The shock still sits in my bones. But heaven needed him more, and now he rests. 2 Timothy 4:7-8 — “I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness.”_ Pastor Emma, receive your crown. Revelation 14:13— “Blessed are the dead who die in the Lord… they will rest from their labor, for their deeds will follow them.” Your deeds follow you, sir. They follow you in every student you housed, every hungry person you fed, every stranger you called family and all you pastored and taught. To Auntie Bernice and the family: Thank you for sharing him with us. We grieve with you, and we thank God for lending him to this world. Dr. Pastor Emma, God bless your soul wherever you are now, I believe you are resting peacefully in Abraham's bossom. We were not ready to say goodbye. But heaven was ready to say, “Well done, good and faithful servant.” Matthew 25:23 Rest well, Papa. Your kindness planted forests in our hearts. We will water them with memory, and live so that your legacy never dies. Ellen & Benjamin

May 12, 2026Pastor Emma, I remember when I joined HCI Nottingham in March 2022. You were so concerned about how I and my family were settling down, followed up on children settling in school and since then always checking up on us asking if everything was going well. You were a kind and approachable person. You have gone to be with your maker and I pray your good works will remain. Rest on in the bossom of your maker.

May 12, 2026I worked with Emmanuel at Nottingham Business School, what an amazing human and colleague. He meant a lot to so many people and his impact went far beyond academia. Always calm under pressure, committed to his work and deeply committed to helping others. His bold commitment to faith is admirable. His lost is felt and he will sorely missed by all. Condolences to Bernice, the children and all the family.

May 11, 2026Emmanuel was the first person I met at my University when I moved to the UK 3 years ago. At a time when I was feeling like the loneliest person in the world, he made me feel welcome and assured me that he was there for me at any time. Throughout the last 3 years, I’ve went to him countless times for every issue I faced, small or big, it didn’t matter to him, he always heard me out and did his absolute best to help me at every turn. Seeing him in class was always a joy, him wearing his colourful shirts and warm smile would brighten up everyone’s day. Although I am very saddened he can’t be there for my graduation, I consider myself very lucky to have had the opportunity to learn under someone so kind and nurturing. May he eternally rest in peace.

May 9, 2026I didn't have the blessing of knowing you for very long but for the short time I did, I knew you to be an inspirational, kind hearted soul. I get why God wanted you back by his side but it feels very unfair and church just doesn't feel the same without you 🙁 I will miss seeing you praying and walking around before you preached - as everytime you did, you always had something powerful to say that resonated with everyone. It's a devastating loss and we all feel it but we also know that you're back with God, and that's a warm comfort. I will keep your family in my prayers and be forever greatful for the few interaction we had and the support snd guidance you showed me and my family. Rest in eternal peace Pastor x

May 8, 2026Uncle you have made us very sad, you always advises us and pray for us. You always praises us when we do amazing things and you always bless us on our birthday. Who is going to send our mum long prayers for us? We spent last year summer with you and you promise to come this summer. Why did you leave us so soon. You did not wait to see us grow. We will always remember you Uncle Emmanuel. We love you. Rest in peace. Denzel, Joshua, Jenson and Alma-Darla.

May 8, 2026Pastor Emma was an exceptional human being. He helped me even when he didn’t know me and never turned me away, no matter how many times I approached him. He played a major role in both my academic success and my legal stay here, and I will always be grateful. And so, for each morning that I wake up, his name will forever be etched in my mind, because my life here is deeply shaped by his kindness, generosity, and unwavering support.

May 8, 2026Pastor Emma was exceptional. I met him in my days as a Masters student at University of Nottingham when I joined Harvest Chapel. At the time I needed support he was there , throughout my countless phone calls to him. At a point I was thinking he might be upset or will give up and will not respond. But he always kept his word and returned my calls. His patience and care for others is out of this world. The day I heard he had passed I wept and throughout the day my spirit was down because I had planned a big thank you at the end of month to him. Pastor Emma may the Almighty God keep you untill we meet again

May 8, 2026Dr Amissah was a very kind and God fearing man. His presence was very welcoming and comforting to me whenever I came to him seeking for his wise council on challenging matters. May 8, 2026Dr. Emma was a kind, helpful, selfless, and deeply compassionate man — a true lover of Jesus. He was my Pastor, Referee and Patron of the University of Nottingham Ghana Students Association, where I served as the Vice President. Dr. Emma lived his life wholeheartedly for Jesus Christ. Many years ago, I had the privilege of working closely with him to support international students settling in Nottingham, and his service was nothing short of remarkable. He stood by me unfailingly whenever I called on him, and his impact on my life is immense. Though it hurts deeply and my heart is broken, I take comfort in knowing that Heaven has gained a faithful soul. Rest well, Soldier of the Lord. Afrakoma

May 8, 2026I met Dr Amissah when we enrolled at Nottingham University for our Master's degree. I recall that day vividly when he was introduced to me by a mutual colleague in front of the Trent building. We'd later meet at Harvest Chapel, Beeston. We called each other Senior. Emma was down to earth, gentle and one who was genuinely helpful. Long after I relocated back home, I remained in touch and he'd be my go-to person for every assistance I needed in the UK as far as shopping and shipping stuff over were concerned. We'll talk every now and then about church and our spiritual life. I made it a point to see him when he visited Ghana. We had a deep mutual respect for each other. Emma loved God and served him to the best of his ability. His service to God translated into being helpful to anyone who needed help. He touched many many lives through the years and I doubt if there's anyone who worshipped at HCI who was not impacted in some way by Emma's service. He was a clear example and I dare say the best among us in how he represented the Kingdom of God. He has only fallen asleep in the Lord as the Apostle Paul renders it and I have no doubt we shall meet again when the Lord Jesus returns or we go to be with Him. He left behind very fond memories and we shall always remember him in a good light. May his life serve as a beacon and example to us. Rest well senior, rest well my brother.

May 4, 2026Extremely painful, but the Lord knows best. Emma was like a brother to me since our teenage years. He had a rare gift for connecting with people. He managed to be many things to many people, always offering support, wisdom, and genuine kindness. He touched so many lives in different and meaningful ways. Wherever he found himself, there was always unity, peace, and purpose. EFFICIENCY due!!!

May 3, 2026Dr. Emma was such a kind, sacrificial, matured and supportive man. Even from the distance in Nigeria, every thought about harvest chapel, brings back the memory of his lovely family. May the Lord strengthen them and uphold harvest chapel, Nottingham.

April 26, 2026Emmanuel made me believe in myself more than I did, saw more good in myself more that I thought. His choice of words were seasoned with salt and full of wisdom.
